when you give command through these devices first of all your input goes to wifi router  request it to send signal to the desired devices then wifi send request to the ethernet connection then ethernet connection which is connect with operating device like aurduino as shown here then aurfuino will send command to the relay board which is connected with your appliances through wires and then relay will operate our home appliances .
